What is a Tankless Water Heater?
A tankless water heater, also known as an on-demand water heater, or sometimes an instant hot water heater, provides you with hot water when you need it, within seconds. As the name suggests, this type of water heater does not have a storage tank. However, although many refer to this type of hot water heater as “instant,” the water does still have to travel through the lines of the home, so the name is a bit misleading. It will still take a few seconds for the water to heat up, but once it does you will have an endless supply of hot water. If you have especially long wait times for water to heat up, a recirculating pump may be a good addition to your new water heater to truly make your hot water happen “instantly.”
A tankless water heater is much more compact and typically mounted on a wall. It only heats water when you are calling for hot water and heats it in small amounts at a time as it is used rather than storing large amounts in a tank and trying to heat all of that water at once when you turn the water on.
This replaces the needless heating of gallons of water that a conventional tank water heater does throughout the day; most of which you don’t even end up using or vice-versa, there isn’t enough and you have to wait for hot water. On demand water heaters saves you from high energy costs of heating large amounts of water and needing to limit how many people can shower at one time. You can easily see why the on-demand water heater is starting to be the preferred option in many homes. Read more about our tankless water heater installation process.
